In dual language education, students have the opportunity to become bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural. Moreover, students in dual language programs achieve above grade level on academic performance measures and demonstrate positive cross-cultural attitudes and behaviors. (Howard and Christian, 2002; Thomas and Collier, 2002).
Austin ISD Dual Language (DL) students will develop a high academic and linguistic proficiency in two languages by participating in a rigorous academic program that enhances the development of bilingualism, biculturalism, and biliteracy so that students will graduate ready for college, career, and life in a globally competitive economy.
