AVID is the acronym for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is a college preparatory course. The AVID mission is "to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society".
AVID is a full-year course. It is more than a class, it is a family of achievers. We work together to help each other reach our aspirations.
How does AVID work?
-
Teaches all students the skills and behaviors for academic success through the school-wide program
-
Provides an elective class with college study, preparation, and university visits; intensive tutorial support, and strong student/teacher relationships
-
Creates a positive peer group for students
-
Develops a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination
-
Brings teacher training in research-proven methodologies for intensive integration of the WICOR processes (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading)
How could I get into AVID?
1: Complete and application
2: Complete and interview. Explain your genuine interest and why you would like to be in AVID.
3: After the interview, we will send letters letting you know your status!
During the beginning of the year, students (and parents) will sign an agreement that students will be held to throughout the year.
