This is a district-wide opportunity to be well and do good by encouraging heart-healthy activities and experiences for students, staff, and the community. Starting Monday, January 31st through Friday, February 4th, we encourage everyone to learn more, engage in activities, and promote an open dialogue about heart health. Here are some ideas to get started:
Education
Visit the American Heart Association website for easy-to-understand materials about the heart and healthy practices
Action
- Review the recommended guidelines for physical activity
- Take the stairs
- Park further away from the door to get extra steps
- Pack a fresh, healthy lunch
- Drink enough water
- Plan nutritious family meals
Discussion
- Reach out to family members to learn about family history of heart disease
- Discuss risk factors with your doctor
- Share your heart health goals with friends
- Be candid! Modeling healthy heart behaviors and having open conversation is important for prevention and management, and this supports the Whole Child Initiative
At the end of the week, Friday, February 4th is "Go Red" day, so don't forget to wear red! Any photo submissions can be posted on the Social Wall of the Wellness Portal (livehealthyaisd.livehealthyignite.com).
Friday also will be our formal CAP 10k kickoff! View this link for information on campus teams.
